Washington: Obama Appoints Ajit Pai as FCC Commissioner

Daijiworld Media Network

Washington, Nov 2: American President Barack Obama has appointed Indian-American lawyer-cum-telecom policies expert, Ajit Varadaraj Pai, as the commissioner of Federal Communications Commission (FCC). FCC is the leading telecom regulatory authority in USA. Obama has also appointed Jessica Rosenworcel, a Democrat, to FCC.

Pai, son of Varadaraj Pai and Radha Pai, is a partner in the litigation department and member of Communications Practices at Jenner and Block, Washington DC. Earlier, he had worked as the deputy general counsel, associate general counsel, and special advisor to general counsel for FCC. He also has given advice to various present and past commissioners from both political parties.

The above appointments are meant to fill an existing vacancy, and one in place of a vacancy yet to be created. These appointments have to be approved by the senate before coming into force. While a vacancy was created due to the resignation of Mendith Attwell Booker in May last, and impeding departure of a Democract, Michael Copps, whose term has expired.

Pai, who studied at Harward College and University of Chicago Law School, will be sworn in as the commissioner of FCC along with Rosenworcel, after their appointment gets the nod of the senate.

Ajit Pai married Janine Ann Van Lancker from Poland at Washington last July as per Hindu traditions.

Dear Ismail, Mr. Pai was appointed as FCC Commissioner not because he is an Indian descendant, but because he is highly qualified for that position. Discrimination against race, color, creed, national origin is thing of the past in the US.

In every race, color, gender, nationality, most people are average in intelligence, a few are genius and rest are all below average.

If some Indians made it to the top doesn't mean all Indians are genius.

Most Indians are holding average paying jobs, quite a few are professionals and rest all are working for McDonalds, Sub-way and Walmart.

Congratulations Pai mam! You bring honor to India and Karnataka. Yes, in USA what matters is hard work and efficiency not influence and God Fathers like it is happening in India. Rajneesh..scores of Indians (mostly Christians) leave India because they cannot stomach corruption, bribe, communal hatred. Many of my Christian Friends left lucrative jobs in India when they were subjected to Corruption. Unfortunately..that is the truth and truth is always bitter. Is it not!

Rajneesh...living in Arab country where there is "0" democracy, you seem to be passing judgement on someone who scaled the height of success in a promising land like USA.

Congratulations Mr. Pai. Regardless what Mr. Rajneesh wrote, you are a fine American- born in USA. Your parents came to USA with hopes and dreams seeking a second chance in life at a time Indian economy were not providing opportunities. So they did well and became part of the USA. The son being a born US Citizen is an American and deserves to hold any and all offices as provided by the constitution of the United States.

His Indian heritage people should take pride in him, as well as India should take pride in the tradition India promoted to spread her citizens abroad. Mr. Pai provides diversity in a culture where adversity has rooted so deep that Mr. Rajneesh can not see the goodness of people and culture. Tomorrow my son or my daughter may become US President, whereas I was born and brought up in India. Mr. Bobby Jindhal, the Governor of Louisiana, is likely to be candidate for presidency from Republican Party in the near future. His parents came from India. He is a born US Citizen and embraced Catholic faith, changing from Hinduism. His wife also embraced Catholic faith from Hinduism. But he still carries the Indian heritage and Indian pride and all Indians must take pride in him. The old Indians who came to USA they came seeking opportunities and establish in new country. The current immigrants come to USA for money with no or limited interest to settle in USA.

Only those Indians who wish to join our culture and be a part of United States should come to this country as Immigrants. Rajneesh, we are proud Americans and Indians. We can over come the adversity through our diversity in the high places. That is kudos for India
