Obama Gets Clean Bill of Health

Washington, Nov 1 (IANS/RIA Novosti): US President Barack Obama is in excellent health and fit for duty, a medical report released by the White House said.

The two-page report written by Obama's physician Dr. Jeffrey C. Kuhlman concludes that Obama is physically active, stays on a healthy diet, maintains a healthy weight, and "on occasion drinks alcohol in moderation".

"The president is in excellent health and 'fit for duty'," the report said Monday. "All clinical data indicate he will remain so for the duration of his presidency."

Kuhlman also declared Obama, who turned 50 in August, "tobacco-free". The president has been criticized for smoking but he has recently told reporters that he has quit the habit.

At 6-foot-1 and 181.3 pounds, Obama has cholesterol level and blood pressure within normal ranges, and is taking "daily steps to good health", Kuhlman said.

The mandatory examination was performed last week for the second time during Obama's tenure in the White House.

Obama announced in April he will run for a second term of office in 2012.
