Puttur: Wild elephants destroy crop in Bandaru area

Daijiworld Media Network – Puttur (MS)

Puttur, Mar 26: For the past two days, wild elephants originating from the Nerankimale forest in Beltangady have been making their way into the Netravati river bank area, wreaking havoc on crops in nearby farms.

Reports indicate that a herd of these elephants has been spotted roaming in the Batkada mosque and B B Majalu areas of Bandaru. As night descends, the pachyderms venture into farms, causing extensive damage to crops. Locals have reported hearing the trumpeting of elephants echoing across distances of two to three kilometres.

On Sunday night, the elephants invaded the farm belonging to B B Majalu Timmaiah Gowda, where they proceeded to uproot arecanut, coconut, and plantain trees, leaving behind destruction in their wake.
