Kundapur, Mar 20: Villagers at Kattu, Hemmadi gram panchayat limits staged protests on Wednesday, opposing unscientific revetment by gram panchayat to the water drain that was not repaired for some time.

Santhosh Hemmadi speaking on behalf of the villagers alleged that revetment is being undertaken without repairs. "If the work is continued, rain water will stagnate during the upcoming monsoon and crops on a minimum of ten acres of land on which nearly 61 families reside will be destroyed. Appeals made to the panchayat in this connection were futile,” he said.

"The work has continued even after issuing a letter of objection to the gram panchayat development officer. The work should be stopped and should be continued only after dredging of lakes and drains. Violent protests will be held in the future otherwise,” warned the protesters.

President Netravati, vice president Shobha Kanchan, member Richard and villagers were present.
