Mangaluru: Blood donation and hair donation camp held at Holy Cross Church

Mangaluru, Mar 17: ICYM city deanery ICYM Cordel Unit in collaboration with Red Drop and Beautiful Lengths (Mangalore Diocese) with the assistance from Fr Muller's Hospital, had organized a blood donation and hair donation camp on Mar 17 at Cordel Parish in memory of Late Terrence D'Souza, an active youth and ICYM Member who passed away in a road accident on Febraury 9. 

The camp was inaugurated by Fr Clifford Fernandes, parish priest, Holy Cross Church, Cordel, by lighting a lamp. In his address, he called on the youth to give blood and give time to others to make a little difference to the society. Fr Paul D’Souza, director, ICYM city deanery, lead the prayer and called on youth to let their light shine, so that someone’s life becomes better. 

A lot of youth from City Deanery consisting of 12 Parishes and others donated blood. More than 90 units of blood was collected. The staff from Fr Muller’s very efficiently managed the entire blood collection process. 

A number of young adults and others donated their beautiful hair for preparing wigs for cancer patients. Two young girls of class 5 were the star attraction along with 36 young ladies and women who donated more than 12 inches of their beautiful long hair for this worthy cause. Beautiful Lengths (Mangalore Diocese) will send the hair for preparing wigs which will be distributed to needy cancer patients. VinithaVeena D’Silva, beautician and hair stylist, assisted in collecting the hair. 

Fr Clofford Fernandes, parish priest, Holy Cross Church, Cordel, Fr Paul D'Souza, director - ICYM city deanery, Fr Ivan Cordeiro, Deacon Norman Mathias, Ruth Castelino, Anil D'Sa, Ashton D'Souza, ICYM deanery president, Kevin Rodrigues, Red Drop Representative, ICYM Mangalore Diocese were present along with parents and family members of Late Terrence Fernandes and a lot of youth and others from various parishes. 

ICYM city deanery and ICYM Cordel Unit is grateful to each and every donor for making the day memorable and to everyone who assisted in making the day a grand success.
