Beltangady: Wildfire erupts at Charmady forest border, further spread feared

Beltangady, Mar 17: A light wildfire has been detected in certain areas of the Charmady Ghat forest, which falls within the Chikkamagalur district, raising concerns about potential further spread.

While traveling towards Kottigehara along Charmady Ghat, fires have been spotted within the forest near the View Point area. Thick smoke blankets several sections of the ghat. With temperatures rising steadily, there is a heightened risk of the fire spreading to adjacent areas. The presence of dried grass exacerbates the danger of the wildfire spreading.

Although the wildfire has been observed on the other side of the Neriya rivulet, the likelihood of it spreading to the Dakshina Kannada portion of the forest remains minimal.
