Bengaluru: St Joseph's University organizes 'Syntaxia 2024'

Bengaluru, Mar 16: SYNTAXIA, the flagship annual event of the cybernetics association at St Joseph’s University, Bengaluru took place on March 12 and 13. It embraced the theme of ‘Digital Oasis', reflected in its decorations and atmosphere, featuring a total of 20 undergraduate and postgraduate events.

Peter Pushparaj, CEO and founder director India and sub-continent of AI NEXUS HEALTHCARE, graced the occasion as the chief guest, commending the diligent efforts of St Joseph’s University's IT students and extending congratulations for their achievements. Emphasizing the importance of continuous learning in today's dynamic landscape, he encouraged students from various institutions gathered there.

Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, the dean of the School of Information Technology, SJU, shed light on the rapid technological advancements, citing IBM's research and stressing the significance of creativity as a vital competency for success.

He urged students to cultivate this skill rather than merely focusing on exam scores, emphasising the importance of staying updated with technological trends and being lifelong learners. Quoting former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi, he highlighted the importance of giving back to society once established.

The valedictory ceremony took place on March 13, where certificates and mementos were awarded to winners.

Fr Denzil Lobo SJ declared Christ University as the overall champions, presenting them with a trophy. Each participant received a certificate of participation, and winners received their cash prizes digitally.

With 20 undergraduate and postgraduate events, Syntaxia 2024 attracted around 250 students from colleges in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu over the two-day event.

The event was sponsored by La Clarencia, with Pushpa Home Biryani as the food partner and Minticc as the clothing partner. Technical events included Tech Tank, Byte-O-Mania, Web Fiesta, Tech Maniac, and Code Quest, while non-technical events comprised AniMania, Red Alert, Film Flow, and La Clarencia. Additionally, an online gaming event featured Valorant.

Dr Sasikala and Dr Mrinmoyee were the faculty coordinators of SYNTAXIA. Nikhil from second year BSc (Comp and Maths) was the student coordinator and was assisted by a team of enthusiastic students of BCA, MSc (Comp Sc), and MCA.

St Joseph’s University offers BCA, BCA (Data Analytics), BSc computer Science with Maths, Stats or Electronics. SJU has Master’s programme in computer science, MSc (Big Data), MCA, MSc (Cyber Security and AI) will be introduced during 2024-25.
