Mangaluru: Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) observes ‘International Women’s Day

Mangaluru, Mar 13: The Gender Sensitization Cell (GSC) from Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) organized a programme to mark the ‘International Women’s Day’ on March 11 at Yendurance Zone, Mangaluru. Mrinal Karkera, associate professor, School of Allied Health, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), welcomed the august gathering with introductory remarks.

Dr Gladys R Colaco, secretary of GSC presented the programme report for the year 2023-24. The guest of honour, Dr Maji Jose, dean, student affairs   and professor Yenepoya Dental College (Yenepoya Deemed to be University), emphasized the need for gender equity amongst both men and women for a better world. The best woman employee award was presented by the dignitaries to Sujatha Shetty, from Biochemistry department who has served the esteemed institution for over a period of 27 years.

The chief guest, Dr Loveena Lobo, associate professor of social work and director, PG programme, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) Mangaluru, highlighted the need to embrace equity at the levels of family as well as workplace. Presidential Address was given by the convener of gender sensitization cell, Dr Leena K C. The programme was witnessed by dignitaries, faculty coordinators, gender champions and student representatives from various institutions coming under the ambit of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University). The inaugural programme was followed by vote of thanks by Dr Amal Lobo, associate professor, department of Microbiology, Yenepoya Medical College and national anthem. Subsequently, the programme was concluded by student cultural programmes.
