World Cancer Day 2024: Kasturba Hospital Manipal forms iconic awareness ribbon through human chain

Media Release

Udupi, Feb 6: On the occasion of World Cancer Day, Kasturba Hospital Manipal in association with Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre orchestrated a powerful display of solidarity and awareness, shaping the iconic cancer awareness Ribbon through a human chain. Doctors, Students, faculty members, and various stakeholders united in a unique initiative aimed at dispelling myths and misconceptions surrounding cancer and educating the community about its signs, symptoms, and risk factors.

Each year, on the 4th of February, World Cancer Day serves as a global reminder to promote understanding and action against this relentless disease. Cancer can be prevented and controlled by implementing evidence-based strategies for cancer prevention, screening, early detection, treatment, and palliative care. Although most cancers do not present symptoms in the early stages of the disease, some diagnostic tests (screening techniques) are sensitive enough to detect cancer even when it is invisible. This both reduces the burden of dealing with a late-stage presentation and can support successful treatment.

On this occasion, Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent remarked, "The human chain formation at Kasturba Hospital Manipal in association with Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre is not just a symbolic gesture; it's a testament to our commitment to raising awareness on cancer and fostering a culture of prevention.”
