Udupi: Minister exudes confidence of party's performance in LS polls in coastal region

Udupi, Feb 5: Energy minister K J George has expressed confidence that the people of the coastal region will support Congress party during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to news persons on his visit to the Congress office, he said the state is facing injustice from the Centre. “We will stage protests against the Centre on Feb 7. The Centre has been unjust towards us in matters of taxes and providing drought relief. No meeting was called even after a report was prepared and submitted to the Centre in this connection. Kota Srinivas Poojary seems to be ignorant about it,” the minister said.

“We have provided compensation as much as we could. We are asking for help from the taxes paid by us. They should release funds as per rules. BJP MPs and union ministers should take the initiative and release the funds. Haven’t people voted for them? The MPs are afraid to speak to prime minister Modi and Amit Shah,” George said.

Speaking about preparations for Lok Sabha elections, he said that Congress party will be among the people and face the elections. “The assurances made to the people are fulfilled,” he said.

He said the matter of Jayaprakash Hegde joining the Congress party is left to the party high command. “I have come to prepare for the elections. The coastal region was once a strong fort of the Congress party. People who were with us might have gone to BJP for some reasons. We are confident that they will support us,” he said.
