Bengaluru, Feb 1: State Yuva JDS president and party president H D Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Kumaraswamy condemned Magadi Congress MLA H C Balakrishna’s threat to the voters about discontinuing the 5 guarantees if Congress party fares badly in Lok Sabha Polls and alleged that chief minister Siddaramaiah and deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar were behind the veiled threat.

Nikhil, who unsuccessfully contested in Mandya Lok Sabha election in 2019 and last year’s Ramanagara assembly seat that was earlier represented by his mother Anita Kumaraswamy, said the statement on stopping the 5 guarantees of the Congress government was a threat to the voters and warned that the people will not accept such threats.

“How can a ruling party MLA announce that the guarantees will be stopped after the Lok Sabha polls if the people did not vote for Congress without the concurrence of the chief minister and deputy chief minister,” he said.

Nikhil said the Congress MLA’s warning was a “blackmail tactic” and an insult to democracy.

The Congress party had announced the 5 guarantees before last year’s assembly polls with an eye on winning the elections and there was no precondition attached saying it will be withdrawn or discontinued later. If the government is serious about its promises, let it continue the guarantees for the full five years, he added.
