Mangaluru, Jan 30: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru observed Martyrs’ Day on Wednesday, January 30 as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhiji, the Father of the Nation who was assassinated on this day in 1948. The students of Grade V B and VI E paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhiji and to all the freedom fighters, the unsung heroes and soldiers who have laid down their lives for the freedom of India.
The programme commenced with a prayer service which focused on inner peace. The portrait of Mahatma Gandhiji was adorned with a flower garland by the dignitaries. The welcome dance enlivened the audience followed by the welcome speech by Eva and Anish and the significance of the day by Saanvi and Ishani. The importance of the freedom fighters, the unsung heroes and soldiers who gave their life for the freedom of our country was portrayed through a dance drama. The ideologies and thoughts of Mahatma Gandhiji on non-violence and peace were also focused on, through this act.
The chief guest of the day, Tr Leena Jose in her speech, shared her father’s experience who is ex-army personnel. Though there were many difficulties and hardships, her father at a very young age realised that peace can give courage, foster strength and positivity and can surpass all anxieties and fear. She emphasised on the beliefs of Mahatma Gandhiji and how the Gandhian principles have influenced many across the globe. She shared four tips on how to restore peace at home, in the school and our surroundings. She concluded her message by saying that with conscious minds all can become ambassadors of peace. A one minute silence was observed and bugles were blown to honour all the martyrs of our country. Maanya Aithal proposed the vote of thanks.
The programme hosted by the students of grade I B and C for the primary section was a harmonious and enlightening event, showcasing the spirit of unity and tranquility. The event unfolded by observing silence at sharp 11.00 am for two minutes, with due solemnity, paying homage to the martyrs of India’s freedom struggle.
The prayer session marked the beginning of the event followed by a prayer dance, setting the tone for the day. Ananya extended a warm welcome to the gathering and Aiden and Aavni elucidated the significance of the day, providing a thoughtful perspective on the quest for harmony. The students performed a thought-provoking skit and a captivating dance performance, shedding light on the beauty of diversity and unity.
The celebration was graced by the esteemed presence of the chief guest, Ajay Pais, physics lecturer of the school who delivered an inspiring message, urging everyone to contribute towards building a peaceful world. The school administrator, Sr Carissima and parents were also in attendance for the event. Yuvansh, Michelle and Kezia emceed the programme. Manvitha expressed gratitude acknowledging the collective efforts that made the event a success.
As both the celebrations concluded, it left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of the children, reinforcing the school's commitment to promoting peace and harmony.
