Kundapur, Jan 26: An appeal was submitted through the assistant commissioner of the taluk to the home minister of Karnataka, urging action against individuals who have been consistently harassing the president and office bearers of Sri Mahakali temple and Vidyaranga Mitra Mandali, prestigious organizations of the Konkani Samaja of the taluk, by filing false cases against them.

The appeal states, “The Konkani Kharvi community of Kundapur is engaged in the fishing profession for their livelihood. Our goddess Sri Mahakali Matha is revered as the goddess of power. The administrative committee of the temple has played a significant role in the development of our community. All religious programs are conducted with utmost devotion. Moreover, over the last 54 years, the Vidyaranga and temple administrative committee has been actively involved in reforming the Kharvi society through education and social work.

“In the midst of these commendable efforts, three individuals are attempting to disrupt the harmony within the Kharvi community. All the cases filed against them are baseless. As these individuals are known to sow division within our community, it is requested that any future cases they file against community leaders be thoroughly investigated. Furthermore, we urge legal action against them, subjecting them to stringent punishment,” stated the appeal.

Prior to submitting the appeal to the assistant commissioner, a procession was organized from Sri Mahakali temple to mini Vidhan Soudha. For the same reason, the fish market and chip work were closed.

Present during the submission of the appeal were president of Sri Mahakali temple Jayananda Kharvi, secretary Keshava Kharvi, president of Vidyaranga Mitra Mandali Damodara Kharvi, trustee Shankara Naika, leaders Prakash Kharvi, Arun Kharvi, and municipality members Chandrashekhara Kharvi and Raghavendra Kharvi.
