Udupi, Dec 22: The department of mathematics in association with the faculty chapter of Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE) of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, organised an invited talk on December 20 on the occasion of ‘National Mathematics Day,’ to commemorate 136th birthday of the great Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.
Dr S M Hegde, professor, department of MACS, NITK, Suratkal, resource person, in his talk he explained why mathematics is called the mother of sciences and how we can find mathematics around us in nature. He inspired the students by taking up real life examples to explain how mathematics is used in some of the main domains like medical science, network analysis and many more. He illustrated how mathematical modelling is used to achieve mathematical results and conclusions in day-to-day life. He urged the students to continue learning mathematics throughout their career.
Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat, principal, professor welcomed the chief guest with a bouquet of flowers. The students who scored 100 in mathematics in the end semester examination were honoured by the institution.
Kathyayini and Deeksha Pai of third year CSE, compered the programme. As many as 200 students, faculty and staff members attended the programme.
