Mangaluru: Kirem church celebrates annual parish feast

Mangaluru, Dec 1: The annual parish feast of Kirem church was celebrated with devotion, joy and pomp on November 29.

The Confraternity Sunday was celebrated on November 26, with solemn Eucharist, procession and benediction. The main celebrant was Fr Edwin Monis, the parish priest of Vijayadka church.

At the end of the Mass, prize was distributed to winners of various contests held on this occasion, such as Bible memorizing competition, Marian-Saints fancy dress competition, Bible quiz etc.

 

The vespers were held on November 28 and was led by Fr Avinash Pais. Earlier, prayers were held at Damaskatte Junction, conducted by Fr Michael Mascarenhas of Kateel church.

The solemn Eucharist was celebrated by Fr George Sunil D’Souza, the parish priest of Thokur church on November 29 and con-celebrated by around 20 priests. The donors were honoured with candles. Fr Sunil preached a meaningful homely and called on the people to share their goodwill, time and other goodness, with the needy just like Jesus did.

After the Mass, the church honored three ‘Guthu Bunt Families’ who according to a tradition saved Christian community during the invention of Tippu Sulthan during the end of 18th Century.

The parish priest while honoring the bunt families said, “Harmony, unity and mutual respect is the need of the hour. We live in a multi-religious contest.  We need to respect each other. May this occasion inspire us to live harmoniously in our society.”

Rohan D’Costa vice president of PPC and James Lobo secretary of PPC and Wilfred Monis, Paul Miranda were present. The church and its premises were illuminated with colorful lights.
