All India Inter University Kabaddi Tournament for men in Udupi from Nov 23-26

Udupi, Nov 21: "Under the joint auspices of Mangalore University and Poornaprajna College, the ‘All India Inter University Kabaddi Tournament 2023-24’ will be held at Poornaprajna College from 23 to 26 November. Sixteen teams from four zones, 250 athletes, 40 sports coaches, 50 team managers and referees will participate in this four-day sports event," said Dr G S  Chandrashekhar, secretary of Poornaprajna managing committee.

Addressing the press briefing he said, "Poomaprajna College, known to host national level sports events in the Udupi district in recent past years and hosted All India Inter University Netball Championship in 2018, All India Inter University Kabaddi Championship in 2019, and All India Inter University Men Volleyball Championship 2023. This is the second time the college is hosting the All India Inter University Kabaddi Championship Tournament, in the last five years.

"The sports tournament will be launched on November 23 with a ‘Bhumi Puja’ officiated by H H Sri Eeshapriya Theertha Swamiji of Udupi Sri Admar Math. The inauguration ceremony will be held with the blessings of H H Sri Eeshapriya Swamiji of Admar Math, on November 23. Vice chancellor of Mangalore University Dr Jayaraj Amin will preside over the occasion.  Yashpal Suvarna, MLA of Udupi, Suresh Shetty Gurme, MLA of Kaup, Dr G Shankar, president of G Shankar Family Trust, Muniyal Uday Kumar Shetty, president of Muniyalu Udaya Krishnayya Charitable Trust, Dr G S Chandrashekar, honorary secretary of Poornaprajna College management committee, Dr A P Bhat, administrative officer, Udupi Sri Adamar Mutt Education Council, CA Prashanth Holla, honorary treasurer, Poornaprajna College Management Committee, Dr B N Somayaji, president of Poornaprajna Alumni Association. Dr Ramu L, principal, Poornaprajna College, will be present. Rakesh Kumar, Arjun awardee in Kabaddi sport and gold medallist in World Cup Kabaddi Championship, will be the special invitee for the inaugural ceremony.

The Prajna Gaurav ceremony will be held on November 25, where college alumni with achievements in national and international level sports events, will be honoured. H H Sri Vishwapriya Teertha Swamiji, Adamar Mutt and H H Sri Eeshapriya Theertha Swamiji, Admar Mutt and president of Udupi Sri Admar Mutt Education Council will grace the occasion. Vinay Kumar Sorake, former minister, State Government,  Raghupathi Bhat, former MLA of Udupi, Jayaprakash Hegde, chairman, backward class commission, State Government, Prasadraj Kanchan, managing director, Kanchan Automobile Pvt Ltd, Girish Shetty Tellar, entrepreneur, Mumbai, CA Prashanth Holla, honorary treasurer, Poornaprajna College management committee, Dr Shridhar Rao, honorary secretary, Poornaprajna PU College, Admar, Dr Gerald S D'Souza, director of physical education, Mangalore University, Dr Kishor Kumar C K director of physical education, Mangalore University, Dr Ramu L, principal, Poornaprajna College, will be present. Dr G S Chandrashekar, honorary secretary of Poomaprajna College management committee, will preside over the occasion.

"The closing ceremony will be held on November 26, after the final match. H H Sri Eeshapriya Swamiji of Udupi Sri Adamar Math and president of Udupi Sri Admar Math Education Council, Bengaluru will be present in this event.  U T Khadar, speaker, Karnataka Legislative Assembly, will be the chief guest. Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLC, state government, Justice P S Dinesh Kumar, Judge of High Court of Karnataka, Raju K, (KAS), registrar, Mangalore University, Pramod Madhwaraj, former Minister, state government, CA Prashanth Holla, honorary treasurer, Poornaprajna College management committee, Shashikiran Umakanth, secretary, Poornaprajna PU College. CA Ganesh Hebbar, treasurer, Poornaprajna PU College, Admar, Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty, director, department of youth empowerment and sports, Dinesh Puthran, president, UDAKA, Udupi, Dr Ramu L, principal, Poornaprajna College, will be present. Dr G S Chandrashekar, honorary secretary of Poornaprajna College management committee, will preside over the occasion.

Speaking about the tournament, Dr Gerald Santhosh D’Souza, director department of physical education said, "Pro Kabaddi players will be participating in this national level tournament. High standard indoor kabaddi courts are made using the latest technology. The tournament will be held day and night from 23 to 26 November, well-equipped free accommodation for athletes, team managers, referees, with South and North Indian style catering has been arranged."

Dr Kishore Kumar C K, director, department of physical education, Mangalore University, Dr Ramu L, principal of the college, Sukumar, the coordinator, All India Inter University Kabaddi Tournament and head of the physical education department of the college were present.

Shivakumar Alagodu welcomed the guest and Nikita delivered a vote of thanks.
