Kundapur, Nov 21: “Cooperative societies are providing more service to the people than the nationalized banks. Khambadkone farmers’ cooperative society has gone one step ahead of national banks by providing loan facilities to the educational sector,” said former MLA K Gopala Poojary.

He was speaking after inaugurating the concluding programme of 70th all India cooperative week, distribution of scholarships, felicitations and honorarium held under the aegis of Khambadkone farmers service cooperative society Uppunda at Nagoor Krishnalalita Kalamandira here on November 20.











National trainer Rajendra Bhat who gave a keynote address spoke about revival of cooperative education and training. “The cooperative movement that has a history of 119 years grew in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district because of Molahalli Shivaraya. Making another person grow during my growth is the principle of the cooperatives. Economy has grown because of the knowledge and awareness of cooperatives. There is immense cooperation of women also for the growth of the cooperative sector,” he said.

Khambadkone farmers cooperative society president S Prakashchandra Shetty who presided over the programme said that the cooperative week is the one which discusses and analyses the rise and fall of the cooperative sector. “Good days are coming now for the cooperative societies. The government has provided opportunities to convert them as multipurpose cooperative societies. Khambadkone cooperative society donates Rs 9.86 lac out of its profit for education and community. The E tender process for the long awaited Raitha Mall is in progress,” he said.

Prathamika Krishi Bhoo Abhivridhi Bank Kundapur president Malyadi Shivarama Shetty, Taluk agricultural produce marketing cooperative society president Hariprasad Shetty, Dakshina Kannada district central cooperative bank director S Raju Poojary, M Mahesh Hegde, Kirimanjeshwara gram panchayat’s Shekhar Kharvi and Kundapur subdivision cooperative societies assistant controller Arun Kumar S V took part as guests of honour.

Examination toppers in the cooperative society limits were distributed scholarships, honorarium to honorary lecturers and funds were distributed to milk producers’ cooperative societies. Retired teachers were felicitated.

Vice president of the society, Ishwar Haklathod, director B Raghuram Shetty, K Mohan Poojary, B S Suresh Shetty, Gururaja Hebbar, Virendra Shetty, Manju Devadiga, Nagaraja Kharvi, Bharath Devadiga, Hoova Naika, Dinita Shetty and Jalajakshi Poojary were present.

Chief executive of the cooperative society, Vishnu R Pai welcomed. Akashvani artiste Dr Ganesh Gangolli sang a folk song. Senior manager Chandra Shetty proposed a vote of thanks. Teacher Subrahmanya G compered the programme.
