Qurum, Nov 11: The premiere show of the Konkani movie ‘Osmitay’ was successfully held at the Vox Cinema at the City Centre, Qurum, on November 3, with 5 house full shows. After months of anticipation, finally Konkani community of Muscat had the opportunity to watch the film, which is widely acclaimed and appreciated all over the world for showing the origin and history of Konkani people, while depicting a modern-day love story. The organizing committee for the premiere show in Muscat has been led by Stanely T H Fernandes and Clarence Donald Pinto in coordination with all Konkani and Goan Associations, and presented by Venture Entertainment Company.

A brief felicitation programme was held under the leadership of Nirmala Goveas, an eminent personality and president of MCCP, who began the inaugural ceremony by welcoming the overwhelming audience with their contagious enthusiasm. Stately T H Fernandes then led the producer of the film and the distinguished guests Louis J Pinto and Patricia Pinto to the portable stage erected at the entrance of the theater, followed by Nellu Permannur, a well-known actor and self-styled villain in the film, Denis Monteiro, the chief character and the soul of the movie, and stunning hero Ashwin D’Costa and dazzling heroine Wencita Dias too were led to the stage.

Stanely T H Fernandes then made an opening speech welcoming all the audiences, guests and the sponsors of the event, and apprised on the coordinated efforts of the Konkani and Goan community associations of Oman in hosting the premiere of the film in support to ‘Maand Sobhan’ – a cultural face and a pride to the entire Konkani community based in Mangaluru. He also said, “To craft this event has been a great pride for the Konkani associations and the Presenter Venture Entertainment, who have been collaborative, insightful, and enthusiastic about making every component of the day magnificent, and finally it not only proved the organizational capabilities, but also the unity among various Konkani associations in Muscat. 

The producer of the film and all the lead actors present placed the candle lights on the inaugural stand, symbolizing the official inaugural of the premiere show. Thereafter, felicitations and presenting of mementos were held for the visiting lead artists and producers, Manoj D’Souza, Venture Entertainment presented memento to Ashwin D’Costa, Ajith Walder - convener of Konkani wing of ISC hand down a memento to Wencita Dias, Prem Colaco, president of GMCC hand down a memento to Denis Monteiro, Michael Passanha, president of SPPKC presented a memento to Nellu Permannur,  and Nirmala Goveas, president of MCCP honored with memento to Louis J Pinto and Patricia Pinto. The members of the core committee, Stanely T H Fernandes and Clarence Donald Pinto, and Herman – co-convener of Goan wing of ISC honored various sponsors of the event with flower bouquets. Praveen Sera and Peter Fernandes took charge of the announcements at the theaters.

Out of the 5 shows, 4 housefull shows parallelly run on the large silver screens and an additional show was also put-up, which altogether enthralled the large size audiences, and indeed created a history in Oman for having premiered a first Konkani movie with such huge response in short notice. 

At the end of each show, producer of the film Louis J Pinto personally greeted the audiences inside the theater and thanked them for all the wholehearted support that they extended, and expressed his sincere thanks to Stanely T H Fernandes in particular and the entire steering committee for successfully organizing the show. While audiences dispersed, they flanked to click the photos with their favorite stars, who freely moved among them.

‘Osmitay’, the epic film set against the backdrop on a quest for Konkani ‘identity’ and woven around a unique love story has made a great buzz among the Konkani speaking community all over the globe, with the story written by Eric Ozario, the film is directed by Vilas Ratnakar Kshatriya with screenplay and dialogues by Joel Pereira. This film follows a young couple as they trace their roots through the narrative of migration from Goa and showcases the visual splendor of Konkani's rich folk heritage. The filmmakers take the audience on a scenic journey of the south west coast while bringing to life the rich heritage of Goa through song and music.

This is a movie worth watching with the family including kids and adults. It is packed with story, humor, good music, entertainment and above all free from violence. At the end of the movie people dispersed with a big smile on their faces. Hats off to the Osmitay team who not only made every effort to entertain the audiences, but also enlightened the history and identity of Konkani for the benefit of the new generation.
