Central government should check price rise: Mamata

Kolkata, Aug 27 (IANS) Blaming the policies of the central government for the rising prices, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Saturday said the union government should take steps to keep prices of essential commodities under check.

"There is no doubt that various policies of the central government are also responsible for the issue of price rise. There are other reasons also such as black marketing of essentials. I would request the union government to take steps to control price rise," Banerjee told reporters here.

Banerjee, along with Mayor Sovan Chatterjee, visited Kole market and Gariahat market here and inquired about prices of vegetables and spices.

"We are concerned about the issue of price rise as the common man is suffering due to this issue. We have to see that both farmers and the common man can be provided with relief," said Banerjee.

Banerjee also indicated that stern steps will be taken against black marketers.
