Hazare Supporters Hold Protest at PM's Guwahati House

Guwahati, Aug 22 (IANS): Hundreds of supporters of social activist Anna Hazare Monday staged an angry demonstration outside the official residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Assam's main city of Guwahati.

Protesters armed with drums and cymbals sang songs lampooning the prime minister and the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government for failing to bring the civil society's version of the Lokpal bill parliament.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam and his residence as shown in his official profile is a rented accommodation at Sarumotoria locality in Guwahati.

Security personnel deployed at his residence watched the nearly 30-minute demonstration before the protesters dispersed peacefully.

Earlier, the same group staged a protest outside the Guwahati residence of Bijoya Chakravorty, BJP MP in the Lok Sabha from Guwahati.

Similar protests were also held outside the residences of other MPs from Assam.
