10 Policemen Die in Afghan Car Bombing


Kabul, Jul 31 (IANS): At least 10 policemen and a child were killed Sunday in a powerful car bombing in Afghanistan, an official said.

The incident took place around 8.30 a.m. in Lashkar Gah, capital of Helmand province, 555 km south of capital Kabul, Xinhua reported.

Daud Ahmadi, spokesman for the provincial government said 12 more people, including nine policemen and three civilians, were wounded in the attack near the provincial police department.

The blast also damaged several police vehicles and nearby government agency buildings.

Afghan security forces took control of Lashkar Gah from NATO-led forces July 20.

Transition of security responsibility will go on till 2014 when Afghanistan will take over full leadership of its own security from US and NATO forces.
