Goa-Maharashtra Irrigation Project by 2013

Panaji, Jul 21 (IANS): The irrigation project undertaken by Maharashtra and Goa across the Tillari river will be delayed by two more years, a minister said here Thursday.

"The project will be completed by 2013," Maharashtra Water Resources Minister Sunil Tatkare said Thursday after a meeting with his Goa counterpart Filipe Neri Rodrigues at the state secretariat here.

The inter-state Tillari irrigation project, which was started in the 1990s and envisioned to be operational in 2009, is being jointly funded by both the governments, who will also share the water generated.

The irrigation dam, located in the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra, will meet the needs of agriculture and horticulture corporations in southern Maharashtra as well as northern Goa. The dam is nearly 900 metres in length and more than 70 metres in height.
