Decodn edition of Niveus Mangalore Marathon to be held on Nov 5

Mangaluru, Jun 19: With the official launch of the second edition of the Mangalore Marathon, the city is all set to make its mark on the global marathon map as the mega event is slated to take place on November 5. The event is being organized by the Mangalore Runners Club. The marathon route is officially certified by the International Association of Marathons and Long-Distance Runs (AIMS), the apex body of marathon events worldwide. The launch ceremony was held at Hotel Avatar in the city on Sunday and was attended by Tulu film star and youth icon Arjun Kapikad, along with budding actress Niriksha Shetty.

The launch event was graced by several dignitaries, including assistant commissioner of Police (Traffic) Geeta Kulkarni, commissioner In charge of Mangaluru City Corporation Ravi Kumar M, and CEO of Niveus Solutions Suyog Shetty, among others. The president of Mangalore Runners Club, Amitha D'Souza, welcomed the attendees, and the race director Abhilash Dominic presented a preview of the event.

 

All the dignitaries expressed their full support to make the event a grand success. Chief guest Arjun Kapikad in his speech mentioned that he is happy a professionally managed and internationally certified running event is happening in Mangaluru. He urged the people of Mangaluru to support the event by participating in huge numbers.

Niriksha Shetty urged people to take up running as it will lead to transform one’s health. She congratulated the MRC team for taking this initiative of hosting a marathon in Mangaluru.

ACP Traffic Geeta Kulkarni mentioned that she was associated with the first edition of the event, and she is happy to be associated with the second edition. She also urged audience to always follow traffic rules.

Suyog Shetty thanked MRC as it has contributed for his personal transformation of becoming fit. He mentioned how becoming runner has helped him to be a better professional and a leader.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Amar Kamath, the secretary of Mangalore Runners Club.

The Niveus Mangalore Marathon 2023 aims to bring together individuals from all walks of life to embrace fitness, community spirit, and philanthropy. By hosting this event, the city also aims to attract tourists who can experience the beauty of Mangaluru while putting it on the world marathon map. As the largest marathon in the region and the only marathon in the district with a racecourse certified by AIMS, the Niveus Mangalore Marathon 2023 expects participation from over 4,000 running enthusiasts, including professional marathon runners from all over the country.

The marathon route is along the picturesque river, offering participants a scenic view of the sea and the beauty of Mangalore. The event offers a range of categories to suit all fitness levels and ages, including the full marathon (42.195 km), half marathon (21.0975 km), 10K run, 5K run, and a special Gammath Run (Fun Run), ensuring there is a race for everyone to participate in and create lasting memories.

The Mangalore Marathon has always been committed to making a positive impact on society, and in line with this vision, a significant portion of the proceeds from the event will be dedicated to supporting local charitable organizations. In the previous edition, over 2,500 runners participated in the event, including 650 participants from outside Mangaluru.

In the months leading up to the event, a series of training runs will be organized to prepare the participants for the much-awaited race day. These training runs are designed to help runners build their endurance, improve their speed, and enhance their overall performance.
