Puttur: St Philomena College holds award ceremony of Yakshagana operatic theatre course

Puttur, Jun 18: The folk theatre art form Yakshagaana, known for mindblowing music, extempore dialogues, and powerful and expressive dance movements have won the hearts of St Philomenites as is evident with the establishment of Yakshakalakendra in the college with the passionate fascination of Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, principal of the college, towards this art form.

The certificate course was organized by Yakshakalakendra in association with Deshabhaktha N S Kille Prathishtaana (R) Kedambadi. Kadamajalu Subhash Rai, president of the Prathishtaana participated as the chief guest and said that the personality an individual develops by being sensitive to the world around only is the greatest of any wealth one can earn in his/her life. The cultural temperament of the students has wonderful platforms to exhibit their talents in college. On this occasion, he also announced his donation of Rs 1 lac to Yakshakalakendra to be handed over on his 75th birthday this year.

Dr A P Radhakrishna, vice principal of the college expressed his view on how students could be the medium to retain the art and culture of the society.

Principal of the college, Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, in his presidential remarks said, "The qualities we inculcate in our personality cannot be stolen away and whatever is learnt, let that be a beacon light on the path of life."

The 25 students who successfully completed the 32 hours certificate course were awarded the certificates. Narayana Sharma of II MSc rendered his services in training the students in the C course. Maithri of II MSc who received the’ Thanda Shreshta Award’ at the Yakshagaana competition organized by Yaksha Dhruva Patla Foundation is honoured.

Performing Arts students rendered an invocation. Prashanth Rai, coordinator, Yakshkalakendra welcomed. Rajeshwari, coordinator of the certificate course proposed a vote of thanks. Hithhashree of III BA compered the programme.
