Udupi, Jun 7: Couple’s Day celebrations were held at St Anne Church, Thottam. It was like a grand wedding celebration. The church was adorned with flowers, decorations and the parish priest and the faithful were waiting to welcome 80 married couples, both young and old for a grand couple’s day celebrations. As the choirs sang the entrance hymn the 80 couples marched towards the altar of the lord hand in hand to celebrate the thanksgiving eucharist for all the wonderful things the lord had done in their lives. It was a celebration of their love, fidelity, honour and commitment.
Fr Denis D’Sa, the parish priest celebrated the solemn eucharist and preached an apt homily on the Holy Trinity and how this trinitarian family is a role model to all the couples in their love, fidelity and commitment to each other.
During the Mass, the couples renewed their marital vows pronounced on their wedding day. Laudate Dominum was sung after the renewal of vows to give thanks to the Lord for keeping these couples together in good times and bad, in sickness and health.
After the Mass, a felicitation programme was organized in the church hall for all the 80 couples. Fr Denis presided over the function and prof Hilda Rodrigues was the chief guest and the toast master. She spoke on the points of communication, togetherness, love for each other and faithfulness. Fr Denis speaking on the occasion congratulated all the couples for their presence and participation. He wished them well. He invited them to value their partner and stay together through thick and thin.
A few games were conducted for the couples by Leslie Arouza the Diocesan Family Commission director and the winners were given prizes. The programme concluded with a delicious lunch.
Harold D’Souza, the coordinator of Parish Family Commission, Leslie Arouza, director of Diocesan Family Commission and the regional secretary for Family Commission, the vice president, secretary and coordinator 20 commissions, an elderly couple Albert and Severine, the youngest couple Gladson and Doreena were present on the stage. Blecilla compered and Juliana Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.
