BJP to CBI: Probe Chidambaram's involvement in 2G

New Delhi, July 15 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the role of Home Minister P. Chidambaram in the 2G spectrum scam.

A five-member delegation of the BJP, led by Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Javadekar met the CBI Director A.P. Singh, to press for their demand. Chidambaram was finance minister at the time of the multi-crore scam.

"We told the CBI director that the role of P. Chidambaram in the 2G scam should be probed. There must be a proper enquiry of his role," Javadekar told reporters after the meeting.

"A. Raja (former communications minister) is in jail but for reasons unknown the role of P. Chidambaram has not been investigated even though he was the finance minister at the time," he said.

Javdekar was accompanied by fellow MPs Maya Singh, Shivakumar Udasi and BJP office bearers Bhupendra Yadav and Jagat Prasad Nadda.

The delegation submitted records received through RTI replies and other evidence, allegedly indicating Chidambaram's involvement in the scam related to the allocation of 2G spectrum licences.
