Heavy rains lash Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh, July 15 (IANS) Heavy rains lashed most parts of Punjab and few places in Haryana Friday, bringing much-needed respite to the residents from the scorching heat. Met officials have predicted more rains over the weekend.

"Rainfall is on since Thursday night and we are expecting similar conditions to prevail in the coming days. These rains have brought down the mercury and the weather was comparatively cooler than past few days," a Met official said here.

Punjab's Amritsar city recorded the maximum rainfall Thursday night at 58.3 mm. It registered a minimum temperature of 23.6 degrees -- five notches below normal.

Ludhiana and Patiala cities settled at lows of 22.4 and 27.1 degrees, respectively, Friday while Chandigarh witnessed a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius.

Ambala, Karnal and Hisar cities in Haryana recorded minimum temperatures of 26.9, 26.2 and 26.6 degrees Celsius, respectively.
