Mangaluru, May 26: Former MLA Ramanath Rai demanded the state government to form a special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the politically-motivated murders in the district.

Addressing media on Friday May 26, he said, “Many youths belonging to the Hindu and Muslim community have been murdered where innocents have lost lives. I want to make it clear that no Congress leaders or workers have involved in this murder but either BJP workers or other religious organization workers were involved.

“Hence, I urge the government to make a list of politically-motivated murders and probe by forming a SIT with a capable officer like Subramanyeshwara Rao,” he said.

He also said, “An FIR has been lodged against MLA Harish Poonja for his statement against chief minister Siddaramaiah.”

When asked about Priyank Kharge’s statement on ban on Bajrang Dal and RSS in the state, Rai said, “Action will be taken against any organization that indulges in violence. The Congress will not spare anyone who involves in violence.”

District Congress president Harish Kumar, corporators Naveen D’Souza and Shashidhar Hegde, Congress leaders Harinath, T K Sudhir and others were present.
