Lata Mallikarjun officially joins Congress party

Bengaluru, May 24: Lata Mallikarjun, the daughter of the late deputy chief minister M P Prakash, who won as an independent candidate, officially joined the Congress party on Wednesday, May 24.

Lata Mallikarjun took her membership at the Congress legislative meeting held on May 24. She emerged victorious in the MLA election with a margin of 13,845 votes against the BJP candidate Karunakar Reddy.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah extended his support to Latha's entry. Lata had contested as an independent candidate as she did not receive a ticket from the Congress party.

The Congress party secured victory in 135 assembly constituencies out of 224, forming the government.
