Udupi, May 20: Administrative officers are looking after the day-to-day affairs of local bodies as the terms of chairman and vice chairman of local bodies are over.

In some local bodies one month is over after the term is over. In some others two months are going to get over. Government has taken out separate notifications in this regard.

At present, the deputy commissioner or officer who is discharging duties in a similar capacity for city municipality, assistant commissioner or officer of similar rank for town municipalities, municipal council tahsildar or officer of similar rank will be in power till the elections are held for local bodies.

Town municipality elections were held in September 2018 and its reservation was announced two and a half year later. So the election of president and vice president was held in 2020. Their term is over now.

City municipality commissioner R P Nayak said, “The term of Sumitra Nayak as president of Udupi city municipality and Laxmi Manju Kola for a period of two and half years was over on April 29. Now DC Koorma Rao is the administrative officer. Once the new authority comes into existence a reservation order will be released. Later, the president and vice president will be nominated.”
