Udupi: Man loses Rs 69,439 in fake electric scooter scam

Udupi, May 19: A man looking to buy an electric scooter online lost a huge amount here.

Rajesh Ameen, the victim of the fraud here telephoned the number found on the OLA Electrical Mobility Private Limited website. The person at the other end asked him to remit an advance payment for it and provided the bank account details to him.

The victim who trusted the fraudster transferred Rs 30,000, Rs 38,940 and Rs 499 in three tranches to the bank account. The unidentified person received a total of Rs 69,439 and cheated the victim by neither providing the scooter nor refunding the amount.

A case under crime number 97/2023 has been registered at Cen police station under section 66( C) and 66 (D) IT Act in this connection.
