Mangaluru, May 8: A woman rescued a dog, which had fallen into a 25 feet deep abandoned well at Ashoknagar in the city.

Rajani Damodar Shetty, who rescues animals, is the Good Samaritan, who showed exemplary kindness in bringing the stray dog out of the well.

Rajani was informed by Atul Pai of Mangaluru rescues about the plight of the dog that has fallen in the well. It was 11.45 pm but Rajani went to the spot and saw that the dog was struggling to stay afloat in water. Due to the darkness of the night Rajani thought not to get down in the well and tried to rescue the canine through a stick. However, the repeated attempts with the stick failed. Seeing the pitiful condition of the dog, Rajani got down into the well with the help of Sudeep, Atul and other locals and brought the dog up.

When the dog was brought up from the well, it was not breathing as it had drank a lot of water. First aid was administered immediately and the dog started breathing and in a few minutes walked without any hassles.

This was Rajani’s 120th rescue of animals that had fallen in the well. She says that the abandoned wells should be covered in order to avoid causing injury or death to stray animals.+
