Major Fire at Delhi Power Station

New Delhi, Jul 3 (IANS): A major fire broke out at a power sub-station near Rajghat in central Delhi Sunday, officials said. No casualty was reported.

The incident took place at around 11.15 a.m. near the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi when a 100 MVA transformer caught fire. "Around 27 fire tenders were pressed into service," a fire official said.

"There is no casualty," said a police officer, adding that they would douse the fire soon. The area has been evacuated, he said.

Meanwhile, Delhi Transco officials maintained there will be no power cut due to the fire. "The power supply in the connecting areas would not be affected as we have transferred the load to the sub-stations in Kashmere Gate and Indraprastha," said Delhi Transco spokesperson Rishi Raj.
