Bengaluru, Mar 18: If the peeling off portions of the much publicised Mysuru-Bengaluru Expressway within days of its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the heavy summer downpour on late Friday night on Friday has turned it into a big pool and overflowing like a malfunctioning drainage and this is Double Engine BJP rule effect, ridiculed JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy on Saturday.

In a series of tweets on the mess on Mysuru-Bengaluru Expressway, the former Chief Minister said Friday night’s nightmare due to heavy rains is reminiscent of last year’s flooding, leading to untold miseries to vehicle drivers.

The contractors and the NHAI escaped with the flimsy excuse that the Expressway was incomplete and all problems will be sorted out, he said and wondered why Modi inaugurated the incomplete road in a hurry that was built at a cost of thousands of crores of rupees.

Kumaraswamy lashed out at Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and the NHAI authorities for getting the Prime Minister to inaugurate the incomplete expressway as an 'election gimmick’' and warned that this will boomerang on the ruling BJP.

The JD(S) leader said the vehicle users, who had paid an exorbitant toll charge of Rs 270 on the unscientifically built and incomplete expressway had to suffer in the biting cold early in the morning on Saturday.

The former Chief Minister has demanded that all the incomplete road works, including the service roads and facilities for the vehicle users along the way must be completed and toll collection must be suspended forthwith.

The people of Ramanagara, Mandya and other areas, who had lost their properties for the expressway must be allowed to travel freely on the expressway, he said.

Early in the morning, Sri MrithyunjayaMahaswamiji of Koodalasangama Panchamasali Mutt called on former Prime Minister H D DeveGowda at his residence, when Kumaraswamy was also present.
