Kundapur: Govt school Kalavara to hold centenary celebrations on Feb 4

Kundapur, Feb 2: the centenary celebrations of government higher primary school Kalavar will be held on Saturday, February 4. The newly built Dr Asodu Anantrama Shetty open theatre and Kaup Muddanna Shetty computer study centre will be inaugurated.

Around 100 years ago when education was a mirage, villagers of Kalavara got together and built a Gurukul on the land of Anagalli family. Puranik was the teacher. The present school began in 1925-26 when there were no school from Koteshwar to Halady. In 1955, the then Madras government education minister laid the foundation stone for the new building. The school was built by contractor Kaup Sanjeeva Shetty with the help of eminent personalities of the village and government.

In 1986, the school celebrated diamond jubilee. However, due to the increasing number of English medium schools, the number of children in this school got reduced. Now the strength is just 160.

Centenary celebration committee and old students’ association is already formed in ordered to begin English medium from LKG, UKG and first grade itself and also providing extremely necessary demands of school.

This school is known for its quality. It bagged the Swaccha Vidyalaya district level award of 2021-22. The institution is renowned in sports and cultural activities. Scouts of the school have taken part in the international Jamboori that was held at Alva’s Moodbidri. Students of the school have represented state level in chess.

Sathish Jogi is the SDMC president, Premalakshi is vice president, Prema K is the acting headmistress of the school, Udayakumar, Arati, Ratnavati Shetty, Balakrishna Shetty, Nagaratna, Shailaja, Rashmi, Gurupriya and Poornima are the teachers.
