Panaji, Jun 3: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Thursday said that Digambar Kamat led government should maintain status quo on the Medium of Instruction (MOI) issue rather than rushing through the decision.
 
NCP’s state executive has decided that the experts’ committee should decide on the issue by considering all the aspects. “Till experts committee decides, state government should maintain status quo on the issue,” NCP’s Goa observer Bharati Chawan told reporters here today.
 
Chawan said that state government should revert back its decision to allow English as MOI, till experts give their views.
 
NCP is a coalition partner in Congress-led government in the state. The party has said that the issue of much significance and emotional one and it needs to be handled by the experts.
 
Sharad Pawar-led party has decided to meet Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Friday and express their stand.
 
When pointed out that two NCP ministers were party to the state government’s decision on MOI, Chawan admitted that there are differences within NCP members on the issue.  “The ministers may have their personal opinions but as a party, NCP feels that the state government should hold back its decision,” she said.
 
The chief minister is currently drawing flak for allowing schools in English medium take government grants. The state cabinet on May 25 took the decision to include English as MOI, amidst protests from section of academicians and parents
