Panaji: Salgaocar Juniors Emerge as 'India Champions'

Panaji, May 25 (PTI) Salgaocar Juniors defeated Mumbai FC in a keenly contested final to emerge as "India Champions" of the Indian leg of the NIKE-Manchester United Premier Cup.

In a close game played at Bharti Vidyapeeth Grounds in Pune yesterday, goalkeeper Aldrich Fernandes saved three scoring attempts by Mumbai FC Juniors (U-15) before the Goa based club won the summit clash 5-4 via tie-breaker.

Mumbai FC, who resorted to rough tactics to keep the Salgaocar boys at bay for the major portion of the game, drew the first blood in 17th minute through N Roger.

The Goan's, however, rode on Myron Borges last minute strike to make a comeback into the match before pipping their opponents in the tie-breaker.

Earlier Salgaocar Juniors (U-15) defeated Guwahati Town Club 3-0 via tie-breaker in the semi-final to book a place in the final.
