Kundapur, Dec 16: Bar association of the taluk held foot march from their office to the office of the assistant commissioner (AC) demanding a law to protect lawyers in the upcoming winter session of legislative assembly.

An appeal in this regard was submitted to the government through AC. Speaking on the occasion Bannady Somanath Hegde urged to implement law to protect lawyers during the winter session of assembly.

Lawyer T Balachandra Shetty said, “Lawyers have to deal with clients, public, police and several other public departments every day. However, from some years in some states of our country including Karnataka lawyers are attacked by police and certain goonda elements when they do not get judgement in their favour. Of late assault and murder on lawyers are taking place also. Recently, a lawyer was publicly assaulted by people of opposite faction in the case. Similarly, some days ago, a young lawyer was arrested in the night without even allowing him to wear clothes and assaulted on the way. So the state government has to implement protection act for lawyers in the coming winter session of assembly.”

All lawyers of the taluk participated in the event.
