People with single name on passport not allowed to enter UAE

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Dec 10: People who are having only one word name in their passport will not be allowed to enter UAE for tour, interview or any other purpose.

At least two or more word names are mandatory in passport and visa. Otherwise no entry will be given into UAE as per the UAE administration. This rule is applicable from November itself. Airlines have shared this information on their websites. However, this new rule applies only to passengers with a visit visa, visa on arrival, employment and temporary visas and is not applicable to existing UAE resident card holders.

If there is only one word name in the passport but residential or employment visa on the same name is available with the holder, then such people have to renew their same one word name as first name and surname in the column. In such case, they will be allowed to enter UAE, said the publication.

For example, if the name of the person is Ramesh Kumar, then the person should mention Ramesh as First Name and Kumar as surname. Both cannot be written as first name. Especially during check in, the names should be mentioned as Ramesh and Kumar and first and last names or surname.

Decades ago, three names were mandatory for people who were going to Saudi Arabia for employment. People used to add surname, father’s name or name of native place for the purpose. This can be done through affidavit. Married women used to get three names including their husband’s name.
