Mangaluru: St Aloysius College organizes Public Homage to Dr Norbert Lobo

Mangaluru, Dec 6: St Aloysius College (Autonomous) in collaboration with other like-minded associations, paid a fitting tribute to Late Dr Norbert Lobo, former director and an illustrious academician of Mangaluru, by organising a Public Homage on November 26 at LCRI hall.

The programme commenced in a meaningful way with college students performing a graceful prayer dance comprising the words of St Francis of Assisi ‘make me a channel of your peace’, which happens to be the favourite hymn of Dr Norbert Lobo.

In his introductory remarks Dr Praveen Martis SJ, the principal of St Aloysius College (autonomous) mentioned that, "Dr Norbert made a name, by giving himself to others, in line with the motto of our College ‘men & women for and with others".

Addressing the gathering Dr P S Yadapadithaya, the vice-chancellor of Mangalore University said, "Dr Norbert was a man of compassion who surrendered himself to the mission of lifelong learning".

Anita Lobo, beloved wife of Dr Norbert reminisced the moments of his life by saying ‘for him his work was worship’.

A portrait of Dr Norbert Lobo, contributed by the SAC staff association, was unveiled. A memoir on his life titled ‘Norbert Lobo-peerless crusader, fearless advocate’ edited by Dr Denis Fernandes was released. The text books authored by Dr Norbert Lobo titled ‘Mathematical Economics’ which he wrote in his last days were released in English and Kannada.

Fr Melwyn Joseph Pinto, rector of St Aloysius institutions, in his presidential remarks acknowledged the great service rendered by Dr Norbert in last 31 years to St Aloysius College.

Dr Ummappa Poojary, former president of AMUCT (Association of Mangalore University College Teachers), Murugendrappa, former president of FUCTAK (Federation of University College Teachers Association of Karnataka), Dr Srinivasayya, president of MUETA (Mangalore University Economics Teachers’ Association), Dr G V Joshi, teacher and research guide of Dr Norbert Lobo, Steevan Pinto, vice-president, Parish Council, St Sebastian Church, Bendore, Dr Narayan Moolya, president of SAC staff association, Dr Richard Gonsalves, director of LCRI Block, Dr Ronald Nazareth, convenor of the programme, Letitia Nathalia D’Costa, president of SAC Student Council were present for the programme.

Dr Denis Fernandes welcomed the gathering and Manoj Fernandes compered the programme.
