New Delhi, May 20 (IANS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday slammed union Home Minister P. Chidamabaram for "embarrassing" the country after another goof-up was detected in the list of Most Wanted terrorists given to Pakistan.
The accused -- Feroze Abdul Rashid Khan wanted in the 1993 serial blasts case along with mafia don Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar -- was found to be in the Mumbai's fortified Arthur Road Central Jail.
"It is very unfortunate for the country. This is an indication how our agencies are working and how our government is working. The home minister is responsible. He is answerable," BJP president Nitin Gadkari told NDTV here.
He said that the CBI is used only to "blackmail" political leaders and was "protecting UPA government's interest".
"...ultimately it is the minister (home minister) is responsible. It is time for Mr. Chidambaram to explain this, as it is a sensitive matter of national interest. When this kind of reports come, it is an embarrassing situation for the country," he added.
Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley called it "a chain of errors, not a one-off mistake".
"How can we trust the government to fight terror. This is an embarrassment for India," Jaitley told a news channel.
The revelation come two days after Wazhul Qamar Khan, accused number 42, and alleged to be in Pakistan, was found working and living with his family in Thane.
BJP spokesperson also blamed the government for the goof-up in the list.
Nirmala Sitharaman said : "The moment BJP raises this issue, the government gets very, very worried, saying we are pushing only their failures on the top of the agenda. Government should first of all respond on this.. it will be yet another case of a mistake.
"Here, we have a government, which after 26/11 assured this country that they are going to have better coordination between intelligence and the investigation wings," she was referring to the Mumbai attack by armed Pakistani terrorists who went on a rampage in Mumbai killing 257 people, including foreigners.
As soon as the news came, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) suspended an inspector and transferred two senior officers.
