Mangaluru: Mangalore University organizes orientation programme

Mangaluru, Dec 5: The department of Post Graduate Studies and Research in Social Work, Mangalore University in collaboration with the department of Collegiate Education and Lions Club Mangaluru organised a day long-orientation programme on 'Professional Social Work – Contemporary Challenges and Preparedness' at Ravindra Kalabhavan, Hampankatta on December 5. The major objective of the programme was to make the students aware on the challenges which are in professional social work, develop practice competence and prepare students to become self-evauating.

“Field work is pre-requisite component of social work education where the students learn through practice based education,” says Dr Reeta Noronha, retired professor, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya in her key note address. She elaborated the importance of field work and high-lightened the need of social work education.

Dr Yashaswini B, assistant professor department of social work, Mangalore University made the opening remarks and welcomed the guests. The orientation programme inaugurated by M Arun Shetty, past district governor, District 317D, Lions Club, Mangaluru. Gurupreeth Alva president of Lions Club, Mangaluru, wished to the programme as chief guest. Professor Paul G Aquinas, chairman of Social work department, Mangalore University presided over the programme.

The programme was followed by session, 'Components of Social Work' by Dr Yashaswini B, assistant professor department of social work, Mangalore University. The second session conducted by professor Paul G Aquinas, chairman of Social work department, Mangalore University on 'Recording in Field work'. The third session was by Dr Mohan S Singhe, associate professor of Social work department, Mangalore University on 'Socila life, Social Solidarity and Social Work Practice'.

Faculties of Social Work Department Mangalore University Dr Usharani B, moderator of the programme, Dr Harish K, introduced the guests, Vinutha K, and Sharath Kumar delivered vote of thanks.

In valedictory Vinay Badiger, research scholar, welcomed the guests. Indira Shetty, secretary, Lions Club and Arun Peter Pinto, treasurer of Lions Club, Mangaluru were the chief guests. All Teaching and non-teaching faculties, research scholars, students of Social work department Mangalore university, first year MSW students and faculties of Government First Grade College Bellare, Vittla, Thenkanidiyuru, Barkuru, Vamadapadavu, Carstreet participated in the programme.
