Byndoor, Dec 3: Traditional Balegara Jogi Tirugata that is held eight days prior to the renowned temple festival of Koteshwara Kotilingeshwara and Uppunda fair, was held on Friday December 2.

This tradition is practiced from time immemorial. According to the story, once a bangle seller went to Parvathi and kept some bangles. Parvathi felt happy and gave the bangle seller gold and money. When the bangle seller was returning, he met Lord Eshwara, who asked the bangle seller what he was carrying in his bag. The bangle seller lies that there are only pieces of broken bangles. Eshwara who gets annoyed and curses him that he should not be able to make ends meet by selling bangles. The bangle seller realizes his mistake and goes and begs Lord Eshwara for mercy. Lord Eshwara gives him his Trishul and Damaru and orders him to carry Kalabhairava God on his head and seek alms by going around in the village where he resides.

Accordingly, every year, before the Uppunda and Koteshwara Kodi festival, this ritual is repeated. A person goes to every house and invites them for the festival.
