Udupi, Dec 2: Backward Classes Commission chairman K Jayaprakash Hegde said the merger of Hejamady and Surathkal toll gates has met with mixed response from the citizens.

He told reporters here that following the closure of Surathkal toll gate, motorists were forced to pay double the toll charges at the Hejamady toll gate.

Hegde said earlier motorists used to pay the toll charges at one point but the merger of Hejamady and Surathkal toll gates had resulted in higher payment of toll charges for motorists at Hejamady.

He said the distance between toll gates will be taken into consideration to arrive at any decision on the levy of toll charges.

He said a meeting has been convened at the DC's office on Saturday, December 3 to chart out the future course of action adding that the decisions will be conveyed after the meeting.
