IMF Chief Strauss-Kahn on Suicide Watch: Report

New York, May 18 (AFP) Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the International Monetary Fund chief accused of attempting to rape a hotel maid, has been placed on suicide watch in the New York jail where he is being held, media reports said.

The report on the NBC New York website quoted an unnamed source saying that Strauss-Kahn, 62, is being checked every 15 to 30 minutes and has been clothed in a jumpsuit and shoes with no laces to minimize the chances of him killing himself.

However, a spokesman for the New York Department of Correction would only say that all inmates were kept under "the same protocol for the safety and security."

"The protocol dictates that every inmate is assessed for risk of harm to themselves and risk of harm to others," a statement said. "All inmate health records are confidential under the law.
