Udupi, Nov 26: Annual Day of St Mary’s English medium school Kannarpady was held on Friday, November 25 with the theme 'Anmol Rishte', love unlimited in the school premises.

Vidhushi Manasi Sudhir, renowned artist was the chief guest for the programme. In her address to the gathering Manasi said, “I am proud about being a member of St Mary’s family. I was teaching dance classes in this institution, and now my daughter is also a student of this institution. St Mary’s has always given equal importance to studies and co curricular activities. But there are institutions which do not give much importance to co curricular and other activities. Parents should encourage their children to participate and learn co curricular activities as much as possible. We should give children the opportunity to learn all the art forms, and should encourage them to excel in their field of interest. We need to teach our children about our cultural traditions and rich heritage as well as we need to teach them to respect other cultures as well. If we are successful in making this happen we will build a world without selfishness, rivalry and others."

Fr Antony Shera, secretary Catholic board of Education Mangaluru presided over the function. In his presidential address Fr Antony Shera said, “Students focus your attention to rise higher. Securing certificates is not enough, they should secure something higher. They should attempt for competitive exams. If these students can do that, our country will benefit a lot. Education is not merely bookish knowledge. We should gain wisdom, which will lead us to do something positive and good. We have to learn to be human. Today there is no love, peace and happiness in society. We witness murder, robbery, rape and other crimes everywhere. I don’t always need to agree with others, but it is necessary that I always respect others. Suicide has become a big problem today. There’s no person without problems. Problems are temporary, not permanent. Let us do good things through our eyes, let us speak good thoughts through our tongue, let us spread love."

Endowment prizes were distributed for the meritorious students for their achievements in academic, sports and co curricular activities.

Marvel Christon Dsouza, alumnus of the institution was honored by the school administration for clearing chartered accountant examinations.

Majunla Blazo, retired teacher of the school was also honored on the occasion on her superannuation.
