Magnitude 4.9 Quake Hits Kashmir Valley


Srinagar, May 14 (IANS) A moderate intensity earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale rock the valley Saturday morning, even as no report of loss of life or property was reported from anywhere so far.

"The magnitude of the earthquake was 4.9 on the Richter scale and it occurred at 3.09 a.m. (IST). It's epicentre was in Hindu Kush mountain range of Afghanistan. The location was 36.58 north (Longitude) and 70.93 east (Latitude)," Amir Ali, incharge of the disaster management cell at the provincial headquarters told IANS.

Hindu Kush is an 800 km (500 mile) mountain range that stretches between central Afghanistan and northern Pakistan.
