Russia Views Amnesty International Report as 'Biased'

Moscow, May 14 (IANS) The Russian Foreign Ministry Friday condemned the annual human rights report of Amnesty International (AI) as politically biased, Xinhua reported.

"The part of the report concerning Russia has been written in the same style as the earlier reports of the US State Department, British Foreign Office and a number of other international non-governmental groups," the foreign ministry stated on its website.

While Moscow supports the AI's attempts to analyse the human rights situation in all regions, the report's authors have failed to avoid political involvement and show unbiased approach in their estimations, the ministry said.

The ministry stressed that Russia has been interested first of all in the recommendations of the UN Human Rights Council, not of those self-proclaimed "international arbiters."
