Louisiana Governor Jindal Releases Birth Certificate

Baton Rouge ( Louisiana), May 8 (AP) Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, who was born in Baton Rouge to immigrant parents from India, has released his birth certificate.

The Republican made the move yesterday, nine days after President Barack Obama released his own long-form birth certificate to further prove that he was born in the United States.

Jindal is being considered by some observers as a potential candidate in the 2012 presidential race.

His office says they released the document to quell any speculation that his eligibility to run for office would be affected by a "birthright citizenship" bill introduced by fellow Republican US Senator David Vitter of Louisiana. It would limit automatic US citizenship to children whose parents were legal residents.

Jindal's parents had green cards for permanent residency and wouldn't have been affected by the legislation.
