Panaji: Goan Band to Perform at Amersfoort Jazz Festival


Panaji, May 3 (PTI) A contingent of Konkani musicians and singers will be participating in the Amersfoort Jazz Festival scheduled to be held in Netherlands from May 13.

Armando Gonsalves, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Heritage Jazz, which has sponsored the musicians, said that this is the first ever time that Konkani music will be played in the festival in Europe.

"Till now, Konkani music has been played amongst the Goan diaspora and the functions organised by them," Gonsalves said.

The Goan jazz band will comprise musicians-- the Monsorate Brothers and eight other members including musician Siddhanath Buyao, singer Veeam Braganza and Konkani pop star Olavo Rodrigues. The event is also supported by Goa Tourism department.

Mumbai-based Monsorate brothers have a record of assisting legends like R D Burman and even recently played with Bollywood singers like Himesh Reshammiya.
